Dead Lock Cover and Dead Heat 2nd Edition Cover

It’s nice to be able to start adding the final touches to Dead Lock now. Yesterday afternoon, I posted the new cover image and a new cover for Dead Heat, but I want to go into a bit more detail about the changes. Firstly, I wanted the Dead Lock cover (see below) to be a much more gritty affair.

It certainly is grittier and simpler and this is exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. It’s set in a prison, hence the barbed wire. The story is a darker affair and I wanted the cover to reflect that. Therefore, it also has more blood 🙂

I had also been given a great deal of thought to the cover of Dead Heat. I’ve never been entirely happy with it even though the illustrator I hired on Upwork did exactly as I asked. I think, ultimately, the effect didn’t quite work. On reflection, the original cover was quite right for it and that was my fault in assuming the assemblage would work as it is. My other half offered to give it another go at doing a cover and yesterday afternoon she produced both of these images. Here is the new cover for Dead Heat. It should be live in the next 24 hours.

Again, a much simpler affair than before, not quite as colourful as the first but I feel the figures on top of the Dead Heat title hints at the quirkiness within. Horror-comedy covers are difficult to design and not particularly easy to source free stock imagery for either. We also have the added bonus that the two images complement each other much more, just as the stories will.

Images will be applied to ebook version and, once Dead Lock is up and running, on hard copy books too. I have a small matter of ordering some samples to ensure that hard copies look right first.

If you’ve not already bought Dead Heat, you can do so here.
