I enjoyed the review and analysis that I did before and I appreciated everyone’s feedback and discussion. However, it was the debate side of the threads that I enjoyed the most so from now on, I will merely offer some thoughts, pose some questions or throw a few ideas out there about each episode and let you do the analyses, tell me what you liked and didn’t like.
It is around six weeks until Peter Capaldi’s inaugural episode as the 12th/14th Doctor. A few weeks ago, I listed my favourite individual Matt Smith moments. Here, I’m listing my five favourite episodes from his run 2010-2014. Some of these may surprise you, others may not. In no particular order then…
We are just a couple of short months away from the inaugural episode of Peter Capaldi’s 12th/14th Doctor and all the excitement that comes with regeneration. It has now been six months since Matt Smith gave up the Old Blue Box for good and it is time I talked about what for me are his 5 finest moments (and later 5 favourite episodes) which makes him my second favourite Doctor behind the legend that is Tom Baker.

An unimportant planet is sending out a signal that nobody can translate and it attracts practically every race we’ve seen in the Whoniverse. On board one of those orbiting ships, he is holding the eye of a Dalek and demanding that the species identify itself. But it is a Dalek ship! He escapes and in the next scene he is chastising a Cyberman head who defends himself with a “you didn’t specify where”. This head he has affectionately called “Handles”.

So we knew going into the episode that John Hurt definitely followed Paul McGann as The Doctor. John Hurt himself made this a public declaration months ago but because it appeared in The Sun nobody really believed him. But then the mini episode released a couple of weeks ago (called The Night of the Doctor) confirmed this. What his “crime” was that led to Smith condemning him in The Name of the Doctor was not stated specifically but was pretty obvious. Continue reading

In view of the trailers released in the last couple of days I am re-blogging this as a reminder of what we know and what we think we know.
Just less than six months away, the episode or episodes that will mark 50 years of the UK’s favourite science fiction show is marked in furious debate, lots of speculation and an unending amount of excitement from fans young and old alike.
Due to an administrative blunder by BBC America, viewers in the USA who pre-ordered their DVDs had them early so were able to see this season’s finale The Name of the Doctor before it aired on either side of the Atlantic. As a reward for not revealing any spoilers, the crew released this “Behind the Scenes” footage.

This is the first of just two articles that I wrote for Doctor Who Land that disappeared a few days ago without any communication from the site admin. The information is still relevant as it was written in light of the information at the end of The Name of the Doctor. Oh and for you lovely people, it is also longer than the original piece. Enjoy!
In the last few hours it has been revealed that Peter Capaldi will replace Matt Smith as The Doctor when he of the cool bow ties has his swan song at this year’s Christmas special. One of the bookies favourites since Matt Smith announced his departure in June, this appointment will come as no surprise to a great many people, particularly those who felt it was about time for another older actor to play the iconic role.
For me, there was really only a handful of choices: Peter Capaldi, Idris Elba and Ben Daniels. I would have loved for it to have been Elba, but he is only 40 and will have many more opportunities. Besides, I’d quite like him as the next James Bond and fear he has probably already become too big for the role of The Doctor. Daniels would have been great but too many raised a great big “meh” because he wasn’t already a well-known name (I don’t really need to remind you that a few of the Doctors were relatively unknown when they took the role, particularly Matt Smith.
